If you think fashion and interiors go hand-in-hand, we’re on the same page! And I have some exciting news for you! I teamed up with the lovely Claire Hurwitz Staszak, interior designer and owner of Centered By Design, for a fun room to outfit series. You may remember Claire as a CoChic Cool Chick from last year. If you didn’t get to read her interview to learn about Centered By Design, check it out here.
Once a month, we’ll be featuring different rooms that Claire has designed, with an outfit styled by me, inspired by the room design. Interiors are my second love, after fashion, so I am super excited about this series! Claire is uber talented, and each of her room designs are really unique, so you’ll see some fun outfits and hopefully gain inspiration for your home and wardrobe!
Without further ado, here’s our first look!
Shop the look: Dress | Coat | Earrings | Clutch | Shoes
I love the glam feel of black and white with a pop of pink. And even though it’s hip and glam, the room is still cozy and inviting. So I wanted to create a similar outfit. The fur jacket makes the look softer and cozier, but it’s juxtaposed by the harsh lines and metallic sheen of the clutch and earrings.
Read on for Claire’s take on fashion and interiors, and what inspired this room:
What inspired you with the design of this room?
This room was inspired by the gorgeous wallpaper (made locally in Chicago) by Relativity Textiles. The clients fell in love with the paper, and I designed around it and their existing bed. What sorts of questions do you ask your clients before starting a room design?
There are so many questions to ask! But my number one is probably, “How would you like to feel in your space?” Design is a lot more than a pretty composition; you need to feel comfortable too, and want to look and enjoy these items every day!
Why do you think interiors and design go hand in hand?
Fashion and interiors are both very much about adornment. Whether you are covering your body or your bed, the design principles are very similar! Also, most times your personal style or what you gravitate towards in fashion will inform your interior design choices. I find it to be so much fun, and often ask my clients where they shop for clothes or what iconic fashion labels or brands they most identify with. This helps me get to know their style better.
Check in next week to see some outfits I styled for Claire, using staples from her wardrobe, and new items from Chicago boutique Milk Handmade.
And be sure to check in next month for the next room to outfit reveal!
